Berkshire AA Intergroup
Purpose
Berkshire Intergroup of Alcoholics Anonymous (BIG) was established in 1990 to carry out certain functions common to all AA groups – functions which are best handled by a centralized office. Its primary purpose is the same as the fellowship at large – to carry the AA message to the still-suffering alcoholic. AA in Berkshire County is stronger and healthier when the member groups come together for mutual support, and to find ways to carry the AA message to the still-suffering alcoholic that groups and individuals can’t do on their own. It is maintained, supervised and supported by volunteer representatives of the groups of Alcoholics Anonymous in Berkshire County.
Some functions that BIG performs for its groups and for the community:
- Maintains a physical, centrally located office for easy access by AA groups and members in Berkshire County.
- Keeps AA literature in stock for sale to the groups and to any interested party.
- Maintains a hotline to direct callers to local meetings, to arrange AA member contacts to newcomers, and to extend the hand of AA to all who reach out for help regarding problems with alcohol.
- Distributes a meeting schedule of AA meetings in Berkshire County.
- Reaches out to the wider community to support their contact with still-suffering alcoholics.
- Coordinates AA activities for all groups such as marathon meetings during holidays.
- Collects and distributes information on AA events and activities.
- Performs any function which serves our primary purpose, as may be directed by our AA member groups.
